8. Understanding how Teams are Decided

St Amant Wildcats is dedicated to the athletic growth of children throughout football and cheerleading. Because we are members of a competitive league, it is unfortunate that some children are not able to play on our teams. Our goal is to provide parents with the necessary information to ensure your son or daughter will be a part of our growing organization. We are often overcome by more people signing up than roster limits allow, as well as weight and age restrictions, and parents being ready before their child. It is your responsibility as a.parent to understand these rules and why we enforce them so sternly.

SLYFA By-Laws only allow 40 players on each teams football roster. Within each organization, there are four teams. These teams are classified by age and Weight Requirements:

A-Team players can not be 13 on or before August 1st and must not weigh more than 175 lbs at the jamboree of current season.

B-Team players can not be 11 on or before August 1st and must not weigh more than 145 lbs at the jamboree of current season.

C-Team players can not be 9 on or before August 1st and must not weigh more than 115 lbs at the jamboree of current season.

D-Team players can not be 7 on or before August 1st and must not weigh more than 105 lbs at the jamboree of current season.

Cheerleaders cannot be 14 years of age on or before August 1st. There are no weight restrictions.

Please Understand

We wish that no child would ever be turned away. Unfortunately, roster, age, and weight limits accompanied by children who aren't' ready for the fast-paced game of football, we have to select a group of athletes that wanna play the game. .Quarters are only 8 minutes long, and the clock runs during most downs. When only 11 players are allowed on the field, it is difficult to get 40 athletes on the field in a game and remain competitive. Teams are very good at eating up the clock, making it difficult to execute plays.Even when the team is winning some players will not step on to play in the game. Your child is not guaranteed playing time even though they are on the roster. However, if a game is out of reach of either winning or losing ,coaches will make every effort to play as many players as able. St. Amant Wildcats want to promote the game of football in a positive manner. We ask that you support us by fully understanding how we determine the players selected for our teams.
